We have been in the midst of an “Arctic Blast” in the Hudson Valley. Temperatures barely climbing out of the teens combined with a bleak, grey sky is enough to keep anyone in warm clothes under cozy blankets.

York Wallcoverings’ new Ashford Whites wallpaper collection is to the home what the white shirt is to the wardrobe: an essential, and the hands-down height of sophisticated chic.

No one is more visually intuitive than a child. York Wallcoverings and DwellStudio celebrate that innate insight with a fearlessly fun new wallcoverings line for little mix masters in the making.

The designers at York Wallcoverings stay curious, creative, collaborative, and experimental. Their inspiration and joy for thrilling people with functionally beautiful products were clear at High Point Spring Market, where York launched a number of new products:

When Joanna Gaines visited York Wallcoverings’ historic headquarters in York, PA to create the first of two new collections, the synergy between America’s oldest and largest wallcovering company and America’s favorite home remodeler was palpable. Here’s what Joanna had to say about their partnership:

Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year is Greenery, a bright, vibrant hue that inspires a feeling of renewal and reinvention in home design.

The designers at York Wallcoverings understand the power of wallpaper in changing the look and feel of a room; understated and refined designs as well as bold, dramatic patterns can quickly and easily breathe life and beauty into any space.

Drawing from the bottomless beauty of our global melting pot, York Wallcoverings serves up elegantly patterned wallpapers honoring the common denominators of folk and tribal traditions as well as Scandinavian minimalism.

Starved for art? Not a problem…not even for starving artists. Allow an arts-inspired wallpaper to do double duty as both paint and painting for an impressive — and impressively easy — wall decor solution.

As NASA embarks on ever more fantastic discoveries into outer space – from Mars and Jupiter, to the moon and back – wallpaper and textile designers are creating stellar celestial interpretations in heavenly blues, right here at home. Bringing the brilliance of outer space to our inner spaces is one giant step for mankind’s manses.

The new Polygons collection from Chella Textiles offers a baker’s dozen of vibrant and unique new colors in solids and patterns, building on its technically advanced indoor/outdoor fabric offerings.

Another busy, beautiful, and inspiring ICFF has come and gone, leaving our minds whirling with near limitless design possibilities.

High Point Market’s bi-annual bounty fittingly elicits the question of trend: What felt fresh? Which influences reigned? Was there an out-and-out “wow” product or trend? From its perch in this marvelous maze, York Wallcoverings shares its point of view on what prevailed.

“I got so lucky,” says Chella Textiles president Lee Menichella of his company’s recent collection with iconic ceramicist Roy Hamilton. “He’s such a master in the world of design.”

Clean, simple neutrals are always in – they provide a backdrop for feature design elements, allowing art or statement furniture to pop, and they also provide a calming serenity when vivid brights or patterns won’t do. Some neutral tones can be stark, and while there’s certainly a time and place for black and white, at times a more subtle approach is the way to go. Alabaster, a creamy, smooth hue that is essentially white’s less ostentatious cousin, is clean without being harsh.

Unless you’ve been living under a (non-pastel colored) rock, you know that Pantone managed to make both a bold and somehow still soft statement with their choice for 2016 Color of the Year: for the first time ever, they chose two, a dusty pink called Rose Quartz and and a cool blue called Serenity.

The two-hour lunch is largely a thing of the past, but every now and again circumstances merit a leisurely mid-day break in the action – and we felt that York Wallcoverings’ 120th anniversary qualified.

Hotly anticipated each year, ICFF is a darling of design shows for good reason. I spent Easter weekend in Toronto, and had the opportunity to check out a famous boutique hotel that I’ve been meaning to stay in for some time – the Gladstone hotel, which (not surprisingly) is situated on the end of a series of super-cool blocks of Queen Street West, about a stone’s throw from another Toronto hospitality institution, the Drake.

Precious metals have long been synonymous with luxury and good taste. In 2015, silver and gold have shimmied out of the jewel box and onto the wall — and whether subtle silver or bold gold, wallpapers with hints of metallic are hardly wallflowers.

I recently had the good fortune to stay at the Drake Devonshire hotel in Prince Edward County, Ontario—despite the fact that it’s been almost solidly booked since it soft-opened in September, and will remain so on the weekends through at least August.
